Nash Rawiller’s winning ride on Mawingo in the Group One Doomben Cup has earned him a suspension and cost him the next two feature meetings in Brisbane.
The premier Sydney jockey put up a spirited defence after being charged for allowing Mawingo to shift in causing interference to favourite Manighar who lost his position in a scrimmage on the first turn.
The incident sparked a protest from third-placed Manighar’s trainer Peter Moody which was dismissed.
Mawingo gave Anthony Freedman his first Group One since he was licensed in August.
“I was one off the fence and left enough room for Manighar,” Rawiller told stewards.
“I was out there and I know what happened.
“I never shifted in and left room on my inside.
“If Luke Nolen (Manighar) thought I was guilty or even 90 per cent guilty he would have gone in heavy in the protest hearing but he didn’t.
“I don’t agree my actions were careless.”
Rawiller begins his ban after Sunday’s Randwick meeting and can return for Brisbane’s richest Group One race, the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap on June 9.
